Finding Home Again

Robert and Rachel Renfro were caught in the grip of active addiction when everything fell apart. In November of 2023 they were evicted from their home. Their daughter Harper was placed in foster care and the family found themselves living out of their car, struggling to survive and unable to break the cycle they were in. With support from their DHS caseworker, Rogue Retreat’s Outreach team connected with the Renfros, and on January 10th 2024, they arrived at the Kelly Shelter. There they made a life-changing decision to stop using substances and work toward reuniting their family. Within a short time, the Renfros moved into Rogue Retreat’s emergency family shelter and Harper was returned to them.

Both Robert and Rachel joined the Hope Kitchens internship program, gaining skills, stability, and confidence. Rachel went on to become a cashier at the Rogue Retreat Secondhand Thriftshop, while Robert stepped into a full-time assistant role in the kitchen.

Today, two years after taking that first step toward change, Rachel serves as Assistant Manager at the Thriftshop, and Robert holds a Guest Host position at The Crossings. They’ve had a home of their own since September 2024. What an incredible turnaround in such a short time!

Reflecting on their journey, Rachel shared, “I’m so grateful for Rogue Retreat. They helped us restart our lives, reunite our family, and succeed.”
