This year marks my fifth year with Rogue Retreat, and it has been an incredible journey. I started as a Graveyard Guest Host, moved to the Day Shift team, then became a Facilities Assistant, and for the past two years, I have had the privilege of serving as the Crossings Site Manager.
When I first arrived at Crossings, it was little more than a field. There was no power, no running water, and very little infrastructure. Today, it has transformed into a vibrant community with lighting, utilities, and a supportive environment where people have the opportunity to stabilize and rebuild their lives.
Currently, Crossings provides 42 low-barrier tent sites, 60 low-barrier shelter units, 10 low-barrier outreach units, and 42 sober living Village units. Every day, I have the opportunity to witness the resilience of our guests as they work toward their goals. Over the years, I have celebrated many success stories and also experienced heartbreaking losses. Both have strengthened my commitment to this work and continue to inspire me to get up each day and serve our community.
What excites me most is the future of Crossings. We are preparing for significant growth and expansion. Plans are underway to replace approximately half of our tent sites with additional pallet shelters, or “row shelters,” and to construct a new resource center that will free up eight additional Village units for housing. We are also planning to add 24 row shelters, 24 cottages, and 10 tiny homes as part of the next phase of development. Construction is anticipated to begin by the end of this year.
The transformation of Crossings over the past five years has been remarkable, but I believe the best is yet to come. Every new shelter, cottage, and tiny home represents another opportunity for someone to find safety, stability, and hope. I am grateful to be part of this mission and look forward to seeing how Crossings continues to grow and serve our community in the years ahead.
Sincerely,
Mona Padilla
